Beware of rental homes posted on Craigslist. Scammers steal the information about a rental, including pictures, and set up their own advertising. They post the rental for a price that seems too good to be true, generally way under market rent, and they often ask for money up front before the potential renter has a chance to see the property in person. If you’re looking for a rental, look for it posted on other sites besides Craigslist to see if the details of the listing match. Also beware of giving out personal information like your social security number and birthdate. We have encountered a number of these sorts of rental scams – and folks who’ve been disappointed and lost money.
